Clinicians will learn step-by-step methods for evaluating a patient for use of the Valve both with and without mechanical ventilation. Strategies for restoring communication, improving swallow function, improving secretion management, and restoring pressures in adults who require tracheostomy will be reviewed. Attendees will receive practical application experience during breakout sessions which include demonstrations, hands-on training, and round-table discussions. Attendees also will learn early intervention considerations and strategies for utilizing a no-leak speaking valve through case studies and mock assessments enhanced with patient videos.

Bonus education opportunity: Registered seminar attendees will be granted access to a pre-recorded webinar, Fundamentals: Tracheostomy Tubes to Mechanical Ventilation. It is strongly recommended that this webinar be viewed. It is only available to seminar attendees and provides an overview of the basics of a tracheostomy tube, cuff management with inflation and deflation, and basic vent terminology. The webinar may only be accessed for the 48 hours before the in-person seminar. To receive continuing education for the webinar, attendees must complete the course, quiz, and evaluation in addition to the seminar requirements.

Speakers

Kristin King, PhD, CCC-SLP
With over 25 years of experience in medical, academic, and industry settings, Dr. King brings a unique perspective to medical speech-language pathology.
